Velamentous Cord Insertion (VCI) in Singleton Pregnancies is Associated with IUGR?

  • Objectives: To evaluate the obstetric and neonatal impact of the sonographic diagnosis of VCI in singleton pregnancies.
    Methods: It was a retrospective study of all patients examined during the period 2000-2005 in whom sonographic diagnosis of VCI was made.Neonatal and obstetric outcomes were obtained for all subjects..
    Results: A total of of 31 patients with VCI were diagnosed. The average gestational age of diagnosis was 22 1/2 weeks.Mean age at delivery was 36,7 weeks. Birth weight below 10-th percentile occured in 9,1% of patients.
    Conclusion:A prenatal diagnosis of VCI was not associated with an increased rate of IUGR
