Doppler Ultrasound Quantitative Data and Skepticism of Practitioners in the Clinic
Purpose: Establish the reasons why some doctors of ultrasound diagnostics skeptically
perceive quantitative Doppler measurements (excluding the study of cardiac hemodynamic). Materials: An analysis of literature data, including sources, which the authors are skeptically perceive the results of Doppler measurements.
Results: Possible causes of the low reproducibility Doppler data were defined as
follows:
1. Different classes of ultrasound diagnostic equipment used by experts in the field of
ultrasound diagnosis
2. Lack of experience of the researcher
3. Complexity of implementation of a Doppler study
4. Variations of the constitutional features of patients who performed Doppler study (in
children the usefulness of the method is significantly higher compared with older
patients).
5. The complexity of the perception of the dynamic process of research for clinicians.
6. Inadequate the Doppler settings used by professionals.
7. Incorrect Doppler angle in determining the absolute values of the linear velocity of
blood flow.
8. Incorrect size of control volume in determining the absolute values of the linear
velocity of blood flow.
9. Not taken into account the physiological factors affecting the value angleindependent
indexes (heart state, cardiac hemodynamics, reactive hyperemia, system
pathology involving peripheral vessels).
10. Subjective evaluation of tissue vascularization in the color Doppler mapping and
three-dimensional reconstruction of the vascular channel by "free hand".
Conclusions: Low reproducibility of the Dopppler data may be due to objective and
subjective reason.
