Differences Between Point of Care and Formal Ultrasound

  • Point of Care (POC) ultrasound is a rapid, goal-directed study to aid in resuscitation and early decision making. It is considered by its users as an extension of clinical examination . It tends to answer basic, binary questions (eg 'is there AAA?') and for this reason it is also known as focused ultrasound. It is neither a comprehensive study nor a replacement of such.

The speaker presents a summary of the history of POC ultrasound, its rationale, applications, limitations and evidence for its use.
