Live Scanning Workshop: Paediatric Hips
This workshop is designed to educate delegates about hip ultrasound and provide clear and concise methods to obtain accurate and reproducible images, enabling them to approach and perform the scan with confidence.
For developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), areas discussed include risk factors, importance of an early and accurate diagnosis, sonographic techniques and treatment. The techniques presented are performed across Sydney and were developed at the Children's Hospital at Westmead by Radiologists in conjunction with Orthopaedic Surgeons. Using a modified Graf , anatomical and Harcke dynamic stress technique, femoral head coverage and acetabular morphology is assessed. These views should be consistent and comparable. Delegates will be instructed both theoretically and practically , shown methods to obtain the necessary sonographic views, and how one accurate image can make a diagnosis.
The ultrasound examination and sonographic features for the detection of hip effusion in paediatrics will also be covered.
