Live Scanning Workshop: Sciatic Nerve / Hamstring
Hamstring injuries are one of the most common soft tissue injuries in both elite and amateur athletes and can lead to significant losses in game time. In the general population posterior thigh and buttock pain is common and often leaves the treating clinician in a dilemma as to the exact cause of the symptoms. Ultrasound is a useful, non-invasive test which may be employed to establish a diagnosis or at least narrow the field of options under consideration.
Ultrasound is a highly dynamic examination and requires sound sonographic technique to produce reliable results. Clinical examination and accurate history taking also play an integral part in the performance of well directed, clinically relevant scan.
This workshop aims to demystify the complex anatomy of the hamstrings and gluteal region. We will review practical tips for the sonographic technique used to evaluate the hamstrings and the sciatic nerve. A full range of pathologies encountered in this region and their sonographic appearances will also be introduced.
