Live Scanning Workshop: MCA/ Ductus Doppler
Doppler ultrasound has become an integral part of antenatal assessment with interesting Doppler applications from the first through to the third trimester. While some Doppler tests such as Umbilical Artery PI are relatively easy to perform, others such as Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) and Ductus Venosus (DV) Doppler are more technically challenging. There are also special biological safety considerations when Doppler Ultrasound is being used. This workshop will outline the clinical scenarios where addition of MCA or DV Doppler is desirable, including: assessment MCA PSV in foetuses at risk of anemia, MCA Pulsatility changes in IUGR, MCA and other cerebral
vessel assessment in intracranial AVMs, DV assessment during Aneuploidy screening, changes in DV waveform in severe IUGR, cardiac anomalies, hydrops, and others. Common sampling techniques, technical tips/tricks, pitfalls and interpretation of Doppler signatures will be discussed. Strategies for limiting acoustic exposure of foetuses will also be demonstrated including: reduction of acoustic output power, efficiency
measures reducing dwell times and the appropriate application of the Output Display Standard.
