Ultrasound Guided Liver Biopsy in Hepatitis C patients.Comparison with Serum ALT, Biopsy Result and Color Doppler Findings
Purpose
To compare the findings of Liver histopathology , color Doppler findings and blood enzymes, with Liver histopathology as the gold standard
Material and Methods
This study was conducted in the Department of Radiology Punjab Medical College , Allied Hospital , Faisalabad Pakistan, from January 2007 till September 2008 , in which 150 patients with Hepatitis C were first examined through Color Doppler ultrasound , their Liver function tests were done and then Ultrasound guided Liver Biopsy was done.
Results & Conclusion
Comparison of results were done between the
• Color Doppler ultrasound findings, namely , Liver texture , margins, Portal vein diameter, Portal vein velocity , Hepatic vein pattern , Hepatic artery velocity , Spleen length &
• LFTs , mainly ALT &
• Liver Histopathology results, which was taken as gold standard
showed that there is close resemblance to Liver Histopathological scoring and splenic length , Hepatic veins pattern shows some correlation and portal vein velocity has also certain association with liver cirrhosis due to Hepatitis C related Liver diseases. SGPT has limited relation to the stage of the disease.
We want to present our study and its results in your esteemed Conference.
