  • Objective: To investigate whether endothelial function was affected by the liver inflammation.
Method: Carotid Arterial Stiffness Index beta=(Ps/Pd)/ [(Ds/Dd) -1],and Pulse Wave Velocity (PWV)were detected by E-Tracking (SSD-5500, Aloka, Tokyo, Japan)and Optiplex (Dell, TX, USA) in 17 to 72 (mean=48.39)years old patients infected with hepatitis virus and received liver biopsy.
    Results: Stiffness beta value was affected by age ≦44, 45-64, ≧65 (6.50±2.30, 8.70±2.71, 10.53±3.62, r=0.444, p<0.001); abnormal waist circumference (7.40±2.23, 8.79 ±3.38, r=0.23, p=0.005); HAI<7, ≧7 (7.05±2.45, 8.94±3.13, r=0.311, p<0.001); HOMA≦2.6, >2.6 (7.81±2.30, 9±3.27, r=0.179, p=0.03); hypertension history (7.70±2.86, 10.10±2.78, r=0.313, p<0.001); metabolic syndrome (7.70±2.98, 8.90±2.87, r=0.195, p=0.013); female, male (7.44±0.20, 8.57±3.33, r=0.185, p=0.02); and fibrosis score≦1, 2-4 (7.25±3.18, 8.40±2.91, r=0.163, p=0.04). It was not affected by HBV(r=0.11, p=0.15), HCV(r=0.137, p=0.08), diabetes history (r=0.008), smoking (r=0.06), GPT (r=0.037), LDL and TG. PWV was affected by age≦44, 45-64, ≧65 (5.5±1.1, 6.5±1.1, 7.3±1.3, r=0.474, p<0.001); waist circumference (5.9±1.1, 6.5±1.3, r=0.219, p=0.007); HAI<7, ≧7 (5.7±1.1, 6.6±1.3, r=0.328, p<0.001); HOMA≦2.6, >2.6 (6.1±1.2, 6.6±1.3, r=0.219, p=0.009); hypertension history (6.0±1.2, 7.1±1.1, r=0.343, p<0.001); metabolic syndrome (6.0±1.2, 6.7±1.2, r=0.259, p=0.001); fibrosis score≦1, 2-4 (5.8±1.3, 6.4±1.2, r=0.204, p=0.01); HCV(5.6±1.3 6.4±1.2, r=0.211, p=0.007) and HBV (6.3±1.2, 5.8±1.3, r=0.179, p=0.02). It was not affected by sex (r=0.10, p=0.19), diabetes history (r=0.11), smoking (r=0.04), GPT (r=0.04), LDL and TG. Multiple regression analysis showed stiffness beta was affected mainly by age, sex, HAI score, HOMA-IR. While PWV was by age, waist circumference, HOMA-IR and hypertension history.
Conclusion: Histology Activity Index score were associated with the carotid stiffness beta and pulse wave velocity.
