  • Benign ovarian cysts including follicular ,luteal and Paraovarian cysts are the most common pelvic masses in reproductive ages and with availability of ultrasounds there are more diagnosed, patient anxiety
And possibility of complication such as torsion or rupture of the cysts demands intervention. Most of the gynecologist manages these kinds of cysts with more invasive methods such as laparotomy or laparoscopy though some suggest hormonal suppress. we studied all pelvic masses in reproductive ages from January2005-2007 in outpatient OB&GYN clinic all the patients with pelvic masses over 5 centimeter and with benign characteristic with translucent liquid and resistance to hormonal therapy were included. There were 30 patients with translucent pelvic collection with indication to intervention including resistance to suppress, pelvic pain, post hysterectomy inclusion cysts, Para ovarian large cysts or to demand for decrease ovarian size to start induction ovulation. the procedure was outpatient without any sedation or anesthesia with transvaginal ultrasound- guided aspiration needle that we use conventionally for ovum aspiration in ART, all collected fluid were sent to pathology department for study and ruling out the malignancy
We found this procedure as a very useful outpatient method to manage benign cysts with low costs and short hospital stay and minimal patient discomfort.
