  • Sonography of the acute abdomen is an initial important diagnostic tool in a pediatric population. Especially in acute bowel conditions of the pediatrics, ultrasonography is an excellent tool for the safe, cost-effective and rapid evaluation of the lesion.
Understanding of the diverse bowel diseases and high resolution sonographic findings could guide the clinicians for proper and effective management of the acute condition of the children.
The purpose of this exhibition is to review the acute bowel diseases with a description of sonographic features that help to establish a correct diagnosis.
We will exhibit high resolution sonographic findings of diverse acute bowel conditions. They are acute appendicitis, right colonic diverticulitis, terminal ileitis, ileocolitis, inflammatory bowel disease, intussusception, bowel involvement of Henoch-Schoenlein purpura, hemolytic uremic syndrome, fecal impaction, duplication cyst, midgut volvulus, antral web, Meckel's diverticulum, necrotizing enterocolitis, gastric bezoar, congenital megacolon and colonic polyp. We will also show the mesenteric and omental lesions, such as mesenteric lymphadenopathy, omental infarction and primary epiploic appendagitis.
