WFUMB and WHO currently collaborate on various ultrasound education programs by organising and sponsoring courses and working for the creation of Education Centers and education and reference material.

The first World Congress of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) took place in 1976 in San Francisco. Since then the WFUMB has organised World Congresses triennially.

The WFUMB World Congress was previously held in Australia in 1985. That Meeting was the highly successful 4th WFUMB Congress in Sydney. WFUMB Congresses have grown enormously as has Sydney's capacity as an international host city.
